Vice President Sara Duterte shared former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s (PRRD) message to supporters gathered in The Hague, saying her father urged Filipinos to pray for the country and for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. amid the nation's challenges.
During an interview released by the Office of the Vice President on Friday, May 8, Duterte said she spoke with her father about his message for supporters staying at “Duterte Street” in The Hague.
“Ang gawin n’yo daw ay magdasal para sa bayan at para kay Bongbong Marcos (What you should do, he said, is to pray for the nation and for Bongbong Marcos),” Duterte said in an interview on May 7.
Duterte said her father described his detention as a sacrifice and told supporters they no longer needed to endure hardships outside.
“At sabi niya na ‘yung nandoon siya sa loob, ‘yun ay sakripisyo na daw so, hindi daw ninyo kailangan na magsakripisyo dito sa labas sa Duterte Street (And he said that when he is inside, that is already a sacrifice, so you don’t need to make sacrifices here outside on Duterte Street),” she added.
“Duterte Street” is the area directly in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC) detention center, where the former Philippine president is being held while awaiting trial.
The former president is currently facing proceedings before the ICC over allegations connected to his administration’s anti-drug campaign.
“He’s okay today,” the Vice President said when asked about her father’s condition.
The ICC earlier confirmed that Trial Chamber judges had been constituted for the case, marking a major step toward trial proceedings.
Duterte supporters have continued gathering in The Hague to express support for the former president.
Vice President Duterte also thanked overseas Filipinos and supporters who traveled, adjusted work schedules, and spent money to support their family.
“Ang lakas ko ay galing sa tao at ‘yung patuloy ninyo na suporta at pag pagtitiwala, ‘yun ‘yung nagpo-propel sa amin para tumuloy kahit mahirap (My strength comes from the people, and it is your continued support and trust that propel us forward, even when the path is difficult),” she added.
Malacañang announced on May 2 that the Office of the President approved Duterte’s revised foreign travel schedule set for May 2 to 15.
A Palace official said the travel authority, issued on April 28, covers visits to the Netherlands, South Korea, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Duterte had initially sought clearance from April 23 to May 15 but later adjusted the dates following changes to her itinerary.
