Gas thief nabbed after siphoning motorcycle fuel in Rizal
A 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, May 7, after allegedly siphoning P500 worth of gasoline from a parked motorcycle in Antipolo City, Rizal.
The Antipolo City Component Police Station (Antipolo CCPS) said the incident occurred while the motorcycle of a 58-year-old victim was parked in Sitio Ivory, Barangay Dela Paz.
Around 2:30 p.m., a female witness saw the suspect, identified only as “Johenes,” sitting on the victim’s motorcycle with a hose connected to a bottle, transferring gasoline.
Considering that several incidents of gasoline theft had previously occurred in the area, including one involving their own motorcycle, the witness immediately informed the victim.
However, authorities said the suspect appeared to realize he had been discovered and fled on his own motorcycle after allegedly draining victim’s fuel tank.
The victim immediately checked and confirmed that his motorcycle gasoline had been completely siphoned.
The incident was reported to the barangay, prompting a follow-up operation that led to the suspect’s arrest at his house after the witness identified him.
The suspect is now detained at the Antipolo City Custodial Facility and may face charges for violating the Anti-Pilferage Act.
