Fans divided as Dani Barretto and father Dennis Padilla trade fiery posts online
Dani Barretto did not hold back while recalling what her mother, Marjorie Barretto, supposedly went through during her relationship with their father, actor-comedian Dennis Padilla.
In a recent episode of the “Almost Honest” podcast with Kylie Verzosa, Dani shared how she and her siblings witnessed their father yelling at their mother.
“Nasanay kami doon. We saw the yelling, we heard every yelling, the screaming — everything my mom went through. Tumatak sa amin ‘yun, di ba? Mga bata kami noon, but that stayed with us,” she recalled.
Dani said she felt “liberated” seeing her mother leave the relationship and eventually grow into a stronger woman afterward.
She added that she now tries to follow her mother’s example and hopes to show her own daughter that same kind of strength.
The revelations did not sit well with Dennis, who responded in the comments section.
“The yelling came from your mom... She kept denying... Wait for my answer... Dani, wag masyadong know-it-all...” Dennis wrote.
He did not stop there.
“Dani... Abangan mo sagot ko... Point by point... Mula nung nasa tiyan ka pa ng nanay mo... I felt abused. I felt liberated nung nakawala ako sa relationship na sinasabi mo. Huwag masyadong mayabang. Wala kang alam. Half lang alam mo,” he added.
It was then that Dani Barretto responded with a lengthy rebuttal.
“@dennisastig I think you’re forgetting we all lived in the same house — that we woke up to your screams almost every morning. Kung hindi si Mom ang sinisigawan mo, one of the help. This is what you always do: use social media to ‘defend’ yourself, spread more lies, and gaslight your children — and now me,” Dani wrote.
“You keep pushing this narrative na kinawawa ka. Weren’t you the abusive one? Kahit nasaan tayo — sa mall, sa grocery — wala kang pinipiling lugar para may sigawan. Default mo ’yan noon hanggang ngayon. Di ba tatawag ka sa mga anak mo, mostly madaling-araw, kasi lasing ka para murahin at sigawan lang sila? And now know-it-all pa ako? Ikaw na naman ang kawawa? Si Mom na naman ang sisiraan mo. Enough is enough.
“All your kids know who you are. That’s why most of them have no communication with you — because you burned bridges with each of them. Pero sa kuwento mo, sila ang mali at ikaw pa rin ang kawawa. Make it make sense.”
Dennis has yet to respond to Dani’s latest statement.
Meanwhile, netizens remained divided over the exchange. Some sided with Dani and believed her account, while others said Dennis should also be given the chance to explain his side.
