22 hurt in jeepney-SUV collision in Isabela

REINA MERCEDES, Isabela – Twenty-two persons were injured in a collision between a passenger jeepney and Sports Utility Vehicle in Barangay Tallungan here on Thursday afternoon, May 7.
Police Major Danilo Malab, chief of the Reina Mercedes Police Station, said the passenger jeepney was bound for Ilagan City while the SUV was traveling towards Cauayan City when the accident occurred at around 2 p.m.
Investigation showed that the SUV driven by Pepe, 63,
allegedly swerved into the opposite lane and rammed the approaching jeepney driven by Ben, 61.
The jeepney overturned due to the strong impact. Twenty-one passengers and the driver were injured. The injured were taken to a hospital.
Malab said Pepe faces a case for reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and multiple physical injuries.
Pepe is detained at the Reina Mercedes police station and
he and the victims are expected to discuss a possible amicable settlement.
Malab reminded motorists to exercise caution and drive responsibly to prevent road accidents.
