Is demi-fine jewelry worth it?
Why this local brand is gaining ground among celebrities and style insiders
Most of the time, when celebrities step out in dazzling jewelry, it is easy to assume they are wearing high-end, fine pieces that cost a fortune. But a closer look reveals a growing shift toward something more practical yet equally stylish. Enter Klad, a local demi-fine jewelry brand quietly building a loyal following among tastemakers and celebrities alike. The question now is simple: is demi-fine jewelry actually worth it?
At its recent launch at SM Makati, Klad unveiled its “Signature” collections in an event that felt less like a retail showcase and more like a fashion experience. With actress Kyline Alcantara in attendance, the brand made a strong case for its place in the modern jewelry scene.
“With the launch of our ‘Signature’ collections, we wanted to create more than just a showcase. We wanted to create an experience,” Troi Tan, member of the board of directors of Vitrail Light Corporation said.
At the heart of Klad’s appeal is its positioning in the “demi-fine” category, a space between costume jewelry and fine pieces. “Demi-fine jewelry is basically an alternative for the expensive stones and base metal,” Troi told Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. He also added that while these pieces are more affordable, they are designed to “mimic the real jewelry” through careful selection of stones and materials.
That balance of price and appearance is where Klad begins to stand out. He emphasized that the brand’s process is deeply intentional. “What makes Klad truly unique is that we handpick every item,” he said, pointing to a tradition rooted in the company’s origins. He recalled how the founder, his mother, would personally curate pieces from suppliers abroad, noting that “there is passion into the work,” a mindset that continues to shape the brand today.
Functionality is another strong selling point. Unlike many fashion accessories, Klad pieces are designed with everyday wear in mind. “It’s nickel-free, which makes the products hypoallergenic,” he shared, addressing a common concern among jewelry users. He also noted the brand’s durability, explaining that “we’re more than five micron coating,” making the pieces “tarnish-resistant” and resilient even when exposed to water and soap.
Among the highlights of the collection is the ivory-amber design, which features a two-pearl concept using South Sea pearls. “It has the ivory and then the golden-amber color,” he said. Pointing out its rarity, that it is sourced from the Indo-Pacific region, the pearls add a layer of authenticity and uniqueness to the design.
The brand also positions itself as a trend leader in the local jewelry scene. “As leaders, we have to always take risks and find new ways to innovate,” he explained. This forward-thinking approach aims to produce pieces that feel both current and enduring, appealing to wearers who want jewelry that can transition across occasions.
So is Klad jewelry worth it? The answer depends on what you value. For those looking for heirloom pieces, traditional fine jewelry still has its place. But for buyers who prioritize versatility, comfort, and affordability, the brand presents a strong case. In a fashion landscape that increasingly values accessibility, it proves that looking polished does not have to come at an extravagant cost.
