BTS warmly welcomed in Mexico as president meets K-pop group ahead of concert series
K-pop supergroup BTS received a warm welcome in Mexico, where President Claudia Sheinbaum personally greeted the group at the National Palace ahead of their sold-out concert series in Mexico City.
The group visited the country’s federal government seat, where they met Sheinbaum before appearing on the balcony to wave at an estimated 50,000 fans gathered at the Zócalo, Mexico City’s main square. The massive crowd turned the city center into a sea of supporters eager to catch a glimpse of the global stars.
In a post on X, Sheinbaum called BTS one of the most beloved groups among young people in Mexico, emphasizing that music and shared values help strengthen ties between Mexico and South Korea. She also praised the group for promoting messages of peace, inclusion, and positivity through their songs.
She added that BTS’s simple greeting to fans brought joy to the large crowd, describing the moment as a meaningful cultural exchange.
According to the Mexico City Government Secretariat, the gathering concluded without incident, with authorities deploying a coordinated operation to ensure public safety during the large-scale event.
BTS later stepped out onto the balcony of the National Palace to wave directly at fans who had waited for hours outside.
The group is set to perform in Mexico City on May 7, 9, and 10 at the Estadio GNP Seguros as part of their “Arirang” world tour, marking one of the biggest K-pop concert events in the country.
