Police are investigating the destruction of ASEAN Summit decorations in Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu where convoys of heads of state pass through enroute to the main venues of the gathering.
Mayor Cindi King-Chan has asked the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office to investigate the matter. She offered a cash reward to people who can provide information that would lead to the arrest of the culprits.
Police Col. Kimberly Molitas, Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) spokesperson for the ASEAN Summit, said charges will be filed once the culprits are identified.
Molitas added those involved in the vandalism must be held accountable as government funds were used for the street decorations.
“We seek everyone’s cooperation to secure all these properties to make sure that we see the beauty of Cebu,” Molitas told reporters.
Molitas said the culprits may be identified through security camera footage.
She revealed that CCTV cameras in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu have been linked to the Multi-Agency Command Center (MACC) amid the heightened security imposed to secure the summit.
