Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala looks to extend her winning ways when she guns for a redemption against China’s Xinyu Wang in Round of 64 of the WTA 1000 Italian Open in Rome Friday, May 8.
Following her first-round win over Polish Magdalena Frech, Eala, 20, tries to strike back against her Chinese rival who handed the Filipina netter a 7-5, 5-7, 4-6 semifinal loss in the WTA 250 ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand last January.
A victory for Eala could set her up a daunting task in the Last 32 where she could either face Greek veteran Maria Sakkari or two-time Grand Slam singles champion and world No. 2 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.
Both Sakkari and Rybakina haven’t played against Eala in the women’s professional tennis circuit.
“First win in Rome, Yay!” Eala wrote on her Instagram story moments after her 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 opening triumph against Frech.
Her participation is part of the Eala’s buildup for the prestigious French Open slated May 24 to June 7 in Paris.
