Phivolcs
A magnitude 5.6 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Davao Oriental late Wednesday evening, May 6, and was felt in several areas in northeastern and southeastern Mindanao, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its Earthquake Information No. 2, the tremor was recorded around 11:35 p.m. and traced 17 kilometers northeast of Caraga, Davao Oriental at at depth of 29 kilometers.
Phivolcs said Intensity III (weak) was felt in the City of Mati, Davao Oriental; Monkayo, Davao de Oro; and the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
Intensity II (slightly felt) was reported in Maco, Maragusan, and Pantukan in Davao de Oro; Davao City; and the City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur.
Meanwhile, instrumental intensities recorded by seismic instruments showed Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.
Intensity II was logged in Davao City; Magpet, Cotabato; Digos City, Davao del Sur; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; and Tupi, South Cotabato.
Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) was recorded in San Fernando and Malaybalay, Bukidnon; Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Santa Maria, Davao Occidental; General Santos City; and Tampakan and T’boli, South Cotabato.
Felt intensities are based on residents’ reports, while instrumental intensities are measured by seismic instruments detecting ground motion.
Phivolcs said no damage was reported, but aftershocks may occur.
