Singaporean drugged, robbed; 'Ativan Gang' trio nabbed in Binondo
Two women and a taxi driver, suspected “Ativan Gang” members, were arrested after drugging and robbing a Singaporean of P170,000 in Binondo, Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) said.
Manila police chief Brig. Gen. Arnold C. Santiago said the MPD Composite Team conducted the operations that led to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects were identified as alias “Cherry” and alias “Cassy,” both residents of Tondo, and taxi driver alias “Atan,” who allegedly transported the victim during the crime.
Police said initial investigation showed that the group targets tourists, befriends victims while roaming tourist areas, then offers them drinks allegedly laced with a sedative (Ativan), causing dizziness or disorientation before stealing cash and valuables.
Authorities said the Singaporean victim lost around SGD 4,000, or roughly P170,000, during the incident.
Investigators also revealed that the taxi driver admitted receiving P20,000 from the two female suspects for his participation in the operation. He was also arrested for illegal drugs after authorities recovered contraband during the follow-up operation on May 4, 2026.
Police further confirmed that alias “Cassy” has a standing arrest warrant issued by the 4th Judicial Region MTCC Makati City for theft, dated May 4, 2026.
MPD said records showed that both female suspects had prior cases involving swindling and theft.
Authorities added that the group’s area of operations reportedly covers Metro Manila, with involvement in theft, robbery, and violations of Republic Act 9165.
The three suspects are now detained at MPD Station 11 as authorities continue probing possible accomplices and links to other members of the alleged gang operating in tourist-heavy areas of Manila.
MPD said intensified police patrolling will continue in Binondo and nearby tourist zones to ensure the safety of local and foreign visitors.
