Senator Rodante Marcoleta has become illogical and unreasonable, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson noted.
Lacson pointed this out following Marcoleta’s claim he is no longer the same person he was in the past.
The senator was referring to Marcoleta’s statement after he presented the progress report of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the flood control mess last Tuesday, May 5.
According to Marcoleta, he has long admired Lacson since his stint as Philippine National Police (PNP) chief but the latter claimed he has changed.
But Lacson refuted this, saying he has been consistent ever since he started his public service, and that it was Marcoleta who has become unreasonable and illogical.
“Di ba, more than 50 years, consistent naman ako. So ang sagot ko lang, hindi naman ako nagbago at hindi naman ako kailanman magbabago (For more than 50 years, I have been consistent. So my reply to that is that I never changed and will never change),” Lacson said during a Kapihan sa Senado forum on Wednesday, May 6.
“Ang nagbago si Sen. Marcoleta kasi nawala siya sa hulog. Hindi na siya in sync with reality. Hindi ko alam kung bakit (The one who changed is Sen. Marcoleta because he became illogical. He’s no longer in sync with reality. I don’t know why),” he pointed out.
“Kasi alam naman natin, di ba, sa baliktaktakan, parang wala sa katwiran eh, madalas. Sinabi ko na nga na, (Because as you know, during debates, most of the time he’s not guided by logic. I already said that) until then, until I gather the necessary or the majority signatures, I'm not yielding the floor. Tatayo pa rin siya, sasabihin niya na unusual (Yet he will still stand and call it unusual),” he said.
Lacson said he believes that the source of his conflict with Marcoleta could have due been due to his inability to accept the reality he was replaced as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
Marcoleta previously headed the blue ribbon panel and led two hearings on the flood control issue before he was replaced by Lacson. This happened after Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero was removed as Senate President and Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III became the new leader of the Upper Chamber.
“Parang, ewan ko lang ha, sa akin lang ito, parang hindi niya matanggap na napalitan siyang blue ribbon (It’s like, I don’t know, if it’s just me. It’s like he can’t accept that he was replaced as blue ribbon (chairman),” Lacson pointed out.
Nevertheless, Lacson said he is hoping that he and Marcoleta will be “BFFs” again, but they should be real “BFFs” if that happens.
“There's always a proper time for that maging BFF uli kami na totoong BFF. There's always a proper time for that (There's always a proper time for that to be BFFs again, real BFFs. There's always a proper time for that),” he added.
