CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) will continue to support more tourism-related facilities in the province to counter the effects of the Middle East conflict in the local tourism industry.
Mark Lapid, chief operating officer of TIEZA, said the collaboration between his agency and local government units as well as stakeholders has strengthened their resolve to lay down long-term solutions such as improved access to tourist sites and backup facilities at points of entry like airports and ports.
In Oriental Mindoro, Lapid said TIEZA has allocated P650 million since 2019 for infrastructure projects for the provincial government.
Gov. Humerlito Dolor said 10 out of 17 TIEZA-funded projects have been completed. Seven are under construction.
TIEZA has provided P41 million for floating docks in five coastal sites in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro that are now being used by residents and tourists.
“You are lucky here in Mindoro because several tourist destinations are here,” Lapid said.
Dolor, Puerto Galera Mayor Robinhood Ylagan, and other local officials thanked Lapid for bringing development to the province and municipalities.
This development, they said, enhanced cultural, heritage, and eco-tourism values and stabilized local economy thru jobs and productive economic activities.
