Caloocan City police are probing the involvement of a drug syndicate in the P1.4-million shabu seizure that led to the arrest of two suspects in a buy-bust operation in Barangay 66 early Sunday, May 3.
The operation was launched after barangay officials reported alleged illegal drug activities in the area.
Col. Joey Goforth said the suspects, aged 37 and 54, were arrested after selling P500 worth of suspected shabu to an undercover operative during the entrapment operation.
Operatives of the Caloocan Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit recovered from the suspects more than 200 grams of suspected shabu valued worth over P1.4 million.
Goforth said similar illegal drug activities were also monitored in nearby barangays, prompting intensified police operations to prevent the movement of drug activities across areas.
He added that the strengthened campaign aims to prevent drug traders and users from shifting operations from one barangay to another.
Police investigators are also looking into the possibility that the suspects are part of a larger drug network, noting that the seized illegal drugs did not originate from Caloocan City.
Coordination with other drug enforcement units is ongoing to trace the source of supply and identify other individuals possibly involved in the illegal drug trade.
The suspects are now detained at the Caloocan City Police custodial facility and are facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Authorities also said the 54-year-old suspect had previously been linked to illegal drug activity in 2002, as anti-drug operations continue to dismantle drug networks and curb drug-related crimes in communities.
