ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has issued a red tide warning in two areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Shellfish Bulletin No. 9 disclosed the presence of toxins in shellfish collected and tested from Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur and Tantanang Bay in Zamboanga Sibugay.
All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from these two areas are not safe for human consumption.
Fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs, however, are safe for human consumption provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly with internal organs removed before cooking.
Red tide or paralytic shellfish poisoning was also detected in Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar and the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan.
