Police are preparing charges against a 50-year-old man for violating Republic Act 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act, after he allegedly assaulted his former partner inside a boutique in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City on Tuesday, May 5.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the suspect as Joel, a resident of Project 8, Quezon City, who allegedly entered the boutique at around 12:09 p.m. and assaulted a 34-year-old female business owner before fleeing the area.
Investigation disclosed that the suspect, the victim’s former partner, confronted and physically attacked her inside the establishment, an incident that has since circulated on social media.
Following the incident, the victim sought police assistance, underwent a medico-legal examination, and filed a complaint before Police Station 15 (PS-15).
Authorities said charges for violation of Republic Act 9262 will be filed against the suspect, as the QCPD condemned the incident and reiterated its commitment to addressing violence against women and children.
Police urged the public to report any information on the suspect’s whereabouts to the nearest police station or through E911 or QC Helpline 122 to help facilitate his immediate arrest.
