COREnergy to energize Mabuhay Towers in Cebu
Vivant Energy Corp.’s retail electricity unit COREnergy announced that it is set to power Mabuhay Towers developments in Cebu province’s key business districts.
In a statement on Wednesday, May 6, COREnergy said it formalized a partnership with BE Group of Companies to provide customized energy solutions for Mabuhay Towers in Cebu Business Park and Cebu Information Technology (IT) Park.
According to COREnergy, these high-density business hubs will soon utilize the retail power supplier’s services amid rising demand driven by the expansion of the IT and business process management (IT-BPM) sector.
By transitioning to COREnergy under the country’s retail competition framework, BE Group aims to move away from treating power as a fixed utility expense.
The partnership leverages COREnergy’s “gentailer” model, which combines the capabilities of a generator and a retailer. This allows for a structured energy strategy that provides cost predictability and shields the property developer from price volatility in the wholesale electricity market.
“As a homegrown company, we want to work with partners who understand the kind of growth we envision to build for Cebu,” said Grand Benedicto, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of BE Group, noting that its partnership with the retailer would help support the firm’s overall development.
“COREnergy has the technical capacity in retail electricity supply and the same level of commitment to Cebu’s progress,” he said.
COREnergy head of sales Marko Sarmiento added, “Businesses are no longer treating power as a fixed monthly expense. With the power of choice, they can structure how energy supports their operations, whether that’s managing costs, improving performance, or planning for scale.”
The collaboration also comes as the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) prepares to lower the contestability threshold to 100 kilowatts (kW) by June 2026. The regulatory shift is expected to further democratize access to the retail electricity market, allowing a wider range of commercial establishments to choose their own suppliers and negotiate competitive rates. - Gabriell Christel Galang
