LPA near Philippines to bring rains over parts of Visayas, Mindanao by May 7 — PAGASA

Another LPA outside PAR still likely to develop into tropical depression

Rain is expected over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao by Thursday, May 7 as a low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of the country approaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, May 5.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said LPA 05a was located about 1,020 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
It remains unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
However, she said the weather system may enter the PAR within the day and could begin affecting some areas in the Visayas and Mindanao “as early as Thursday.”
Meanwhile, a second LPA, known as LPA 05b, was located farther east at about 2,595 kilometers from northeastern Mindanao.
It has a “high chance” of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours.
Torres said the weather disturbance may enter PAR over the weekend, although no significant direct impact is expected within the next three to five days.
“Posible pumasok sa PAR this weekend, gayunpaman hindi natin nakikita ang direktang epekto nito in the next three to five days kaya patuloy pa rin tayong mag-antabay sa mga update ng PAGASA (It may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this weekend. However, no direct impact is expected within the next three to five days, so we should continue to monitor PAGASA updates),” she said.
Torrest said easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, continue to be the dominant weather system affecting the country.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Zamboanga Peninsula and Palawan in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, fair weather conditions will generally prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
However, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may still occur in the afternoon or evening.
