Time seems to move faster each year, and somehow, we are already in the middle of summer. With everything happening around us, from constant noise online to long to-do lists and self-improvement goals waiting to be ticked off, it is easy to lose sight of what this season is really about. For many, summer is supposed to be a pause, a reset, a chance to breathe. But what does that actually look like today?
To find out, we asked some of today’s young content creators a simple question: What is a summer well spent for you?
‘European summer in your early 20s is the dream, but I haven’t found an island as good and fun as Siargao. So spending a week on the island with my friends, riding our rented motorcycle, doing a yoga session, enjoying a good breakfast, and surfing at sunset would do it for me.
For me, a summer well spent has evolved over time. As a child, summer was always my favorite season because it meant going to the beach, visiting resorts, or spending time at my cousins’ houses. It was very active and family-centered. To this day, I still enjoy going to the beach whenever I get the chance, as it brings back that sense of freedom and nostalgia.
Now, I have found a different kind of appreciation for summer. I prefer slower, more intentional days at home where I can rest and recharge from my usual routine. It is about giving myself time to regenerate, enjoying simple things like cold desserts, and creating small moments of comfort.
At the same time, summer still excites me in new ways, especially with beauty releases, since a lot of brands tend to launch products during this season. It is something I genuinely look forward to as part of my current lifestyle and interests.
A summer well spent for me definitely includes a touch of nature, whether it is a river or mountain adventure, or simply tanning under palm trees. I also prefer places with fewer people. It doesn’t really matter if I am alone, with friends, or with family, as long as I get to relax, enjoy their presence, and enjoy being present. I know I am living.
For me, I am such a big homebody nowadays. I love spending nights indoors with a book or watching a new show. On weekends, I enjoy trying new restaurants with my girlfriends, with good gossip on hand.
My definition of a well-spent summer involves leaning into a more analog lifestyle.
Lately, I have been reclaiming my time by starting my mornings with a jog in the park near my house. I also recently visited Intramuros, where I got to deep dive into our history and explore famous Filipino architectural feats, while also making memories on family beach trips where we can truly unplug. Most importantly, I have shifted from chatting online to meeting my friends in real life to catch up on our lives.
Different as they may be, these answers point to a shared desire to slow down and be intentional. Whether it is chasing waves in Siargao, seeking quiet in nature, staying in with a good book, or reconnecting offline, a well-spent summer is less about how grand the plans are and more about how present you choose to be. In a season often defined by escape, perhaps the real luxury is finding moments that feel yours genuinely.
