Allow hassle-free travel of fuel tankers, LGUs told

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered all local government units (LGUs) to exempt fuel from any restrictions that would impede the supply of petroleum products. 
In its order, the DILG explained that restrictions like truck ban and traffic coding policy should be done away with at this time to allow legitimate petroleum industry companies some breathing room for the orderly and smooth delivery of oil petroleum products.
“Ensuring the uninterrupted movement of fuel supply is critical to sustaining economic activity and protecting the welfare of our people during this period of global energy disruption,” the DILG said.
In a memorandum circular, the DILG called on the local chief executives (LCEs) to exercise their supervisory authority to ensure strict and effective implementation of the directive across all local jurisdictions.
“Local governments play a vital role in ensuring that essential goods such as fuel are delivered without delay. We count on your full cooperation,” it added.
Likewise, the DILG reminded the LGUs to exercise their disciplinary authority over erring elected officials pursuant to Chapter IV, Title 2, Book 1 of RA 7160 or the Local Government Code.
These measures are aligned with the government’s call in addressing the crisis, following the issuance of Executive Order No. 110 declaring a state of national energy emergency.
With the current energy crisis, the DILG vowed to continue to monitor compliance and coordinate with concerned agencies to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of fuel nationwide.
