Philippine sim racers now have a more defined international target after the FIA launched the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour, its first official global rally esports competition.
The new series will run on Assetto Corsa Rally and will include an Asia-Pacific regional shootout on June 23, 2026 during the FIA Conference in Macau, S.A.R. China. For local players, that places the Philippines within a regional qualification path that leads to the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour Finals in Shanghai during FIA Awards Week.
The competition begins with an online qualifier from May 12 to 25, 2026. Drivers from Europe, MENA, North America, South America, Asia-Pacific, and Africa will compete for places in their respective regional shootouts. The FIA states that the online stage will reduce the field to 56 drivers, with eight drivers coming from each participating region.
Drivers will need to register through the FIA website for the Online Open Qualification. The regulations require drivers to declare their passport nationality and date of birth at registration, while a valid FIA International Esport licence is clearly required if they qualify for a Regional Shootout.
From there, the competition moves into regional knockout rounds. The Asia-Pacific shootout in Macau will be the first confirmed regional event, followed by Europe’s shootout from October 16 to 18 in Frankfurt, Germany during the SimRacing Expo. Dates and venues for the other regional rounds have yet to be confirmed.

Sixteen drivers will qualify for the finals in Shanghai. The FIA says two drivers will come from each region, except Europe, which will send four because of its higher number of FIA Member Clubs. Two wildcard drivers will also be appointed by the FIA. The competition will close on December 12, 2026 during the FIA Awards Ceremony, where the final two drivers will compete live on stage in a side-by-side Grand Final.
That structure gives rally esports a more formal ladder than the usual mix of community leagues, online rallies, hotlap challenges, and private tournaments. The Philippine sim-racing scene has active players across circuit racing and rally simulations, but international rally esports has not always had a clear route tied directly to motorsport’s governing body. The Asia-Pacific shootout gives local drivers a regional point of entry, provided they meet the FIA’s eligibility, licensing, and competition requirements.

The choice of Assetto Corsa Rally adds a technical question to the story. The game is still in Early Access and has only reached version 0.4, which means it has not yet arrived at a full 1.0 release. Physics, input handling, force feedback, and device compatibility may still change as development continues.

The title has drawn attention for its graphics, laser-scanned stages, and driving feel, but the platform is not yet trouble-free. Some Fanatec direct drive users have reported force feedback issues, while other players have raised concerns about binding simple Arduino-based peripherals such as handbrakes. That is a basic function in many established sim-racing titles, especially for rally players who rely on handbrake inputs for tight hairpins and low-speed rotation.
Version 0.4 has brought input-related improvements, including Fanatec FullForce, Logitech TrueForce, and improved generic device compatibility. Even so, the FIA’s rally esports platform is still being built on software that remains under active development. That matters because rally esports depends heavily on hardware feel. Drivers do not repeat the same circuit lap after lap. They need to react to blind corners, camber changes, surface shifts, jumps, braking zones, and pacenotes with only one clean run to set a time.

For Philippine players, the opportunity is still significant. The FIA Esports Global Rally Tour places rally sim racing inside a more official international framework, with online qualification, regional competition, and a live global final. It also gives the local scene a target beyond casual competition and community events.
The practical question is how accessible that path will be. Licensing requirements, travel, hardware standards, and the final entry process will affect whether local sim racers can realistically take part. With Macau now confirmed as the Asia-Pacific stop, Philippine rally sim drivers at least have a clear regional marker on the 2026 calendar.
