PH Team wins over 30 awards at NextGen Olympiad in Sydney
The Philippine team brought home more than 30 awards from the just concluded 2026 NextGen Olympiad held in Sydney, Australia.
The competition drew participants from Mongolia, Romania, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, the Philippines and host Australia.
The event was conducted at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
The Filipino contestants took part in mathematics, science and English language contests where they won multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The students who represented various public and private schools across the country were mentored by the Mathematics Trainers Guild Philippines (MTG) which has been training math-gifted learners in the Philippines since the mid-1990s.
MTG president Dr. Isidro Aguilar named some of the country's multiple medalists as Abbygail Celine Bunyi (University of the Philippines Integrated School); Carmela Esther Braganza and Lila Ysabel dela Rama (St. Pedro Poveda College); Tydron Bently Montecillo (St. Thomas Academy Avida; Charleton Caiser (Phil. Cultural College); Alaina Shianne Gapuz (Palawan Hope Christian School); Carl Lance Garcia (Bauan Technical High School), and Vince Jayden Chen and Julianna Elisha Lee (Grace Christian College), among others.
Meanwhile, 47 Filipino stuents achieved perfect scores in the Living Math Olympiads.
Other Philippine students scored 287 gold, 707 silver, 845 bronze and 1,099 credit medals in the same competition.
The contest was part of the Math Challenge for Filipino Kids Training Program during its 7th Saturday session held in December 2025.
Grades 1 to 12 learners took part in the activity.
