TACLOBAN CITY – The city government of Calbayog has purchased 30,000 school bags for distribution to Kindergarten to Grade 6 public school pupils in 157 barangays in Calbayog.
Mayor Raymund Uy has started distribution ahead of the opening of classes on June 8.
There is a proposal to distribute the school supplies during the Brigada Eskwela to encourage participation from parents.
"We want every child to have something to use for school such as notebooks, ballpens, writing pads. If they are not complete, at least parents will only have a few items to add. At least we will be able to provide the basic needs," Uy said.
These do not bear the names or photos of any city officials. The only prints are the city’s name, the branding “City of Waterfalls,” and city logo.
“Ever since we started our administration, we have not imposed putting pictures even on business plates, service vehicles, and other programs because it is not necessary," Uy said.
The Local Youth Development Office, in partnership with the Youth Coalition of Resilient Empowered (CORE) Volunteers from RayHak Kabataan sa Barangay Baay, is distributing them to barangays.
