Easterlies to bring scattered rains across parts of PH — PAGASA
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in several parts of the country as the easterlies remain the dominant weather system in the next two to three days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, May 3.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is being monitored within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
However, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sorsogon, Masbate, Palawan, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Basilan within the next 24 hours.
Aurelio warned that moderate to heavy rainfall brought by the easterlies may trigger flash floods or landslides.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience hot and humid weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies from morning until noon and a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
The public was also advised to remain vigilant against severe thunderstorms, which could also trigger flash floods or landslides.
PAGASA also warned that 14 areas may reach danger-level heat index on Sunday.
Heat index values in the “danger” category, ranging from 42°C to 51°C, indicate a high risk of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and possible heat stroke, especially with prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions.
The areas that may record danger-level heat index include NAIA in Pasay City, Metro Manila at 42°C; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte at 43°C; Dagupan City, Pangasinan at 43°C; Bacnotan, La Union at 43°C; Aparri, Cagayan at 43°C; and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at 43°C.
Also expected to reach similar levels are Cubi Point in Subic Bay, Olongapo City at 42°C; Sangley Point in Cavite City at 42°C; Infanta, Quezon at 42°C; Cuyo, Palawan at 42°C; CBSUA-Pili in Camarines Sur at 42°C; Dumangas, Iloilo at 42°C; La Granja in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental at 42°C; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Norte at 43°C.
PAGASA advised the public to take precautionary measures against heat-related illnesses, particularly during peak afternoon hours, and to limit prolonged exposure to the sun.
It also reminded the public to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
