Angeline Colonia powered her way to a pair of silver medals in the women’s 48 kilogram division of the 2026 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Junior Championships in Ismailia, Egypt.
Colonia lifted a total of 177kgs to place second overall and behind gold medal winner Zailian Zeng of China who had a total lift of 189kgs. Placing third was Rebeca Groulx of Canada who totaled 174kgs.
The 19-year-old pride of Zamboanga City lifted 80 kilograms in snatch to also add another silver to her haul while she registered a 97kgs lift in the clean-and-jerk.
Coloma actually tried to go for the gold medal in snatch but failed to lift 82kgs in her third and last attempt allowing Zeng to come away with three gold medals.
Not as fortunate, meanwhile, were her teammates in the Philippine team Jhodie Peralta and Prince Kiel Delos Santos who fell short of the podium in their respective divisions.
Delos Santos finished fifth in the men’s 60kg class after tallying a total lift of 261kgs. He registered a 118kgs lift on snatch and 143kgs on clean-and-jerk.
Peralta, on the other hand, ended up at the seventh spot after hoisting 183kgs in the women’s 53kg division. She was just short of five kilograms to land on the podium after snatching 85kgs and then notching 98kgs in the clean-and-jerk.
