BACOLOD CITY – A 41-year-old sugarcane worker was arrested on Friday, May 1, for gunrunning and killing his 13-year-old neighbor in Barangay Poblacion West, Candoni, Negros Occidental on April 27.
Police Capt. Leonel Adolacion, Candoni police chief, said they subjected the suspect, Kadong, to a buy-bust operation following reports against him.
The suspect was apprehended after selling a homemade .38 caliber revolver to a police poseur-buyer. Recovered from him were the gun, two bullets, and the P1,500 marked money.
Investigation said the victim was on her way to a store to buy ice when the suspect saw her and invited her for a lift on his tricycle.
The victim hopped on and Kadong asked her for a sexual act but she refused.
Angered, the suspect choked and hit her head with a stone. The suspect dumped her body in a sugarcane field.
The suspect said he did it alone but police have more than one person of interest.
The body of the victim has been subjected to medical examination to find out if she was raped..
Charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition will be filed against the suspect, who allegedly liked the victim, on Monday, May 4, while murder charges will be processed on regular filing, according to Adolacion.
Despite the suspect's confession, Adolacion said they will seek legal procedures to formalize his admission.
The victim's family could not believe that the suspect killed her as he is a long-time friend.
