Motorists should expect heavy traffic in some parts of EDSA and other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila due to ongoing repairs and road rehabilitation, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
For EDSA, the traffic jam is expected at the southbound side of Magallanes Flyover until May 4 due to the rehabilitation which started on April 30.
In a statement, the MMDA said they will work with the Department of Public Works and Highways to make the most of the long weekend to expedite the road repairs.
The DPWH is also expediting the road rehabilitation in both north and southbound lanes of EDSA in Guadalupe, Makati area.
In Quezon City, motorists were also advised to be mindful of the expected heavy traffic until 5 a.m. on Monday due to the ongoing road reblocking and repairs of the Quezon Avenue, EDSA Tunnel.
On E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, asphalt overlay from Mariblo Bridge to G. Araneta Avenue is being done until May 7 but the MMDA said the working hours will only be from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The longest scheduled repair so far is along the southbound lane of C-5 Katipunan Avenue, specifically from UP Town Center to C.P. Garcia Avenue which will be until May 31.
The repair includes rotomilling and asphalt overlay works but the MMDA said that it is being done from 11 p.m. every Friday to 5 a.m. every Monday.
“Motorists are advised to take alternate routes and allow extra travel time in the affected areas,” the MMDA said in its advisory.
