Marikina job fair records surge in SHS graduate hires
Marikina City Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro urged young jobseekers to continue their studies while pursuing employment, after the city’s Labor Day job fair on Friday, May 1, recorded its highest number of hires among senior high school (SHS) graduates.
“Sa ating mga hired-on-the-spot, congratulations. Halos nakausap ko ang marami sa inyo. Marami sa kanila ay senior high school graduates. At ang lagi kong sinasabi, mag-kolehiyo kayo! Hindi dapat natatapos ang inyong pagkatuto ‘pag nagka-work na kayo (To our hired-on-the-spot applicants, congratulations. I was able to talk to many of you. Many of them are senior high school graduates. And what I always say is, go to college! Your learning should not stop just because you already have work),” the mayor stated.
As a former educator, Teodoro stressed the importance of continued learning for the youth to expand their knowledge, improve their skills, and build careers that lead to better employment opportunities.
She added that building the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMAR) aims to provide the youth with free college education.
“Kaya natin tinayo ang Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMAR) para bigyan kayo ng oportunidad na makatanggap ng libreng edukasyon sa kolehiyo (We established the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMAR) to give you the opportunity to receive free college education),” she said.
This year's Labor Day Job Fair was held in partnership with the local government, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and SM Supermalls.
DOLE expressed its gratitude to the city government, Mayor Teodoro, Marikina First District Rep. Marcy Teodoro, and SM Supermalls for organizing the job fair, which provided a venue for jobseekers to connect with potential employers.
With 45 partners from the public and private sectors participating in the fair and a one-stop shop for government services, the fair provided accessible sites for Filipinos to find work across various fields.
“Malaking bagay ito para sa Marikina, dahil ito ay isa sa mga paraan para mabigyan natin ng magandang kinabukasan at pag-asa ang mga taga-Marikina (This is a big help for Marikina, as it is one way we can provide a better future and hope for the people of Marikina),” the mayor said.
The local government said the job fair is one of 18 job fair sites opened to celebrate Labor Day in the National Capital Region (NCR) as part of the DOLE’s Labor Day activities, themed “Disenteng Trabaho Para sa Lahat: Iisang Hangarin, Bagong Pilipinas, Sama-Samang Mararating.
