The heroic deeds of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel in the nick of time saved the life of a child, who nearly drowned in a nearby river in Olongapo City.
The rescue happened right after responding to a fire incident on Labor Day.
Grasping for breath after being submerged in the river, the child might have suffered serious injuries or at worst death itself if not for the efforts of Fire Office 1 (FO1) Efren Roxas, who at that time, was clearing the equipment used in a fire incident.
Roxas, a registered nurse, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) right away with FO1 Mervin Santos assisting nearby.
The child was successfully brought back to consciousness and was immediately turned over to the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) ambulance. Currently, the child is in the hospital undergoing further evaluation and management treatment.
The two BFP personnel drew praises from the public, acknowledging that things would have gone worse if not for their swift and decisive actions.
Under the leadership of Central Luzon Director Senior Supt. Santos Gawangna, the BFP stressed that it continues to uphold the unwavering commitment of every life matters and every second counts.
