Marcos on Labor Day: Workers are 'backbone' of PH; vows better jobs, protection
President Marcos paid tribute to Filipino workers, calling them the “backbone” of the nation and vowing to expand job opportunities and strengthen labor protections.
In his Labor Day message posted on Friday, May 1, the President said workers continue to drive the country forward despite economic challenges and changing industries.
“Today, we honor every member of our workforce… it is the Filipino worker who drives the Philippines forward and keeps the world in motion,” he said.
Marcos emphasized the central role of workers in nation-building, noting their contributions across sectors and circumstances.
“You are, and will always be, the backbone of our Republic,” he said.
He highlighted how workers’ efforts provide stability for families and strength for communities.
Call for shared responsibility
The President said Labor Day should serve as more than a celebration, but a reminder of the responsibility of both government and the private sector.
He stressed the need to build a system where “hard work is rewarded, and opportunity is real.”
Marcos said this includes protecting livelihoods, respecting honest labor, and ensuring that progress reaches ordinary Filipino families.
Jobs, protection, opportunity
Marcos assured workers that his administration remains committed to improving their conditions.
“Rest assured that this administration stands firm in defending the dignity of every Filipino by creating more and better jobs, boosting worker protection, and broadening pathways for all to succeed,” he said.
The President said placing workers at the center of government policy will help achieve a more equitable and hopeful future.
“With you at the heart of our agenda, a stronger, more equitable, and more hopeful Bagong Pilipinas is well within reach,” he said.
