At least 398 families affected by a fire along Mayhaligue Street in Tondo, Manila, have received financial assistance and relief goods from the city government, but many victims are still appealing for additional help to rebuild their lives.
Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) Director Jay Reyes Dela Fuente said families whose homes were totally destroyed were given P15,000 each, while those partially affected received P5,000.
Aside from cash aid, the city also distributed family kits and food boxes to address the immediate needs of displaced residents.
Hot meals, including dinner, were also provided to evacuees, with officials assuring that the food supply will be sufficient until Sunday morning, May 3.
The city government continues to extend assistance to the victims as recovery efforts and further support measures are underway.
However, amid the ongoing aid distribution, many affected residents have taken to social media to plead for additional help, saying what they received is still not enough to rebuild their lives.
One resident, Anne Domingo, appealed for support for her family, who lost their home in the blaze.
“Sa isang iglap po ay nawala ang kanilang tahanan at mga pangunahing pangangailangan (In an instant, their home and basic necessities were gone),” she said, asking for donations such as clothes, food, daily essentials, health kits, and items for children.
“Anumang maliit na tulong mula sa inyong mga puso ay malaking bagay na po para sa kanilang pagbangon (Any small help from your hearts will mean a great deal for their recovery),” she added.
