Senate panel waiting for DOF's insight on bill seeking estate tax amnesty extension

The Senate is still waiting for the Department of Finance’s (DOF) insight on the bill seeking to extend the period of availment of estate tax amnesty.

This, according to the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, the primary committee chaired by Sen. Pia Cayetano that is tasked to oversee deliberations on the proposed Estate Tax Amnesty Act of 2026.

According to the ways and means panel, it is still waiting for the DOF to comment on the bill.

The panel has also not made any commitment as to a timeline for its passage.

Senators who have filed the bill are Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, Jinggoy Estrada, Erwin Tulfo, Raffy Tulfo, and Mark Villar.

The proposed extension seeks to move the deadline to either June 2027, or June 2028.

The measure, according to Zubiri, primarily seeks to lessen the burden of heirs of property owners who have passed.

The most recent amendment to the Estate Tax Amnesty Law or Republic Act No. 11213, which placed the deadline of settlement on June 14, 2025, has already lapsed.

The House of Representatives approved its own version of the bill last December 2025.
