For many children in Parañaque, this summer will be more than just a break from school—it will be a chance to discover the joy of reading, build confidence, and dream a little bigger.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez announced that the city’s public library will officially launch the “Children’s Summer Reading Tutorial” program on May 2, ushering in weeks of fun, learning, and meaningful experiences for young Parañaqueños.
Designed for children in preschool, kindergarten, and Grades 1 to 3, the program aims to strengthen not just reading and writing skills, but also a child’s confidence in learning—something that many young students continue to rebuild after years of disrupted schooling.
Inside the library, learning will come to life through storytelling sessions, guided reading, and hands-on activities that turn lessons into play. Children will also explore math through games that sharpen their thinking, while arts and crafts sessions will give them space to express their imagination freely.
More than just lessons, the program offers something deeper—a safe and nurturing environment where children can ask questions, make mistakes, and grow at their own pace.
The mayor said the initiative reflects the city government’s continued commitment to investing in education and ensuring that no child is left behind, especially in their formative years.
Olivarez is also encouraging parents to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that even a few weeks of guided reading can make a lasting difference in a child’s academic journey.
As the program opens its doors this May, it carries with it a simple but powerful promise: that every child who walks into the library will leave not just as a better reader, but as a more confident learner ready to take on the next school year.
