DAYANG
ILOILO CITY – Calls for justice were renewed a year after the murder of veteran journalist Juan “Johnny” Dayang in Kalibo, Aklan.
Noel Cabobos of Aklan News Channel said Dayang’s family, friends, and colleagues are tirelessly still seeking justice.
The 89-year-old Dayang was shot and killed while watching TV in his home on April 29, 2025.
Cabobos said justice remains elusive as none of the suspects have been arrested.
The Aklan Police Provincial Office said that a warrant of arrest was issued against suspect Kim Wency “BB Boy” Bayang Antonio last January.
Aklan police spokesperson Police Capt. Aubrey Ayon said that a tracker team has been formed to arrest Antonio and they are working to identify the identities of two other suspects.
“We assure the public that justice will be served,” Ayon said on Thursday, April 30.
Dayang was known locally as the “Father of Aklan Media” and gained prominence on the national level as the longtime president of the Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PAPI).
Dayanag also served as president of the Manila Overseas Press Club (MOPC) and director-board secretary of the National Press Club (NPC).
During the time of his death, Dayang was a columnist of Tempo and Balita under Manila Bulletin Publishing Corp.
