7,000 vacancies up for grabs in Baguio Labor Day job fairs
BAGUIO CITY – At least 7,026 jobs for local and overseas placement are available to applicants in Baguio City and neighboring towns during the Labor Day jobs fairs at the SM City Baguio and the Baguio Convention Center.
“We urge those who are looking for a job, want a new job, or are interested in having a livelihood or training to join the activity on May 1. We have brought together more than 50 companies and manpower agencies, as well as several government agencies, at the venue for the public to have choices of work,” Imelda Romanillos, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Cordillera director, said.
She said government offices that issue pre-employment documents would also join the job fairs.
These include the Philippine Statistics Authority, Social Security System, Civil Service Commission, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG Fund, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Professional Regulation Commission, Department of Migrant Workers, and the National Labor Relations Commission.
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Cordillera acting Director Glen Murphy also said they will set up booths in the job fairs to provide possible assistance to applicants.
The Department of Trade and Industry will also be present to provide possible livelihood assistance, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Armed Forces of the Philippines will also offer job vacancies during the fairs.
“We will look into the near hires to see what possible skills can be provided for them to fit in jobs, or maybe they just lack some skill, and we can advise them on possible scholarships for skills acquisition,” Murphy said.
He noted that aside from offering courses based on the demand for local, national, and foreign employment, they are also holding Enterprise-Based Education and Training with companies to upskill their current workers and provide new skills to prospective workers.
“We want to know what is lacking. We hope to assist if they just need additional skills so that they can fit in the jobs they are aiming to get,” he said.
He also said Enterprise-Based Education and Training is also available for micro, small and medium enterprises engaged in skills-based activities that need training for their workers. "This addresses the needs of companies in terms of skills," he added.
Among the new jobs that will be up for grabs during the Labor Day jobs fairs are machinist, crane operator, pipe fitters, dock mechanic, shop fitter, naval architect, rigger, and jib crane operator with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
