700 barangay residents receive over P860,000 worth of laboratory, medical fees
Checkups and laboratory diagnostics are supposed to be free and for people who are struggling to budget their meager salary, free medical exams are bliss.
And this is what 700 individuals at Barangay West Crame in Quezon City felt when policemen, backed by medical personnel sent by various non-government organizations, initiated a one-day medical mission.
Police Lt. Gen. Edgar Alan O. Okubo, the Deputy Chief for Operations of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said a total of 433 beneficiaries underwent laboratory diagnostics, while the rest received medical consultations and corresponding medications following physician evaluation.
“Services were delivered on-site through a structured patient flow system designed to maximize efficiency and coverage within the operational period,” said Okubo who also heads the Rotary Club of Camp Crame (RCCC).

Laboratory testing included Chem 12 and HbA1c panels, covering key indicators such as fasting blood sugar, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and uric acid for early screening of metabolic and renal conditions.
Complementary services included physician consultations, ECG testing, X-ray imaging, and pharmacy dispensing, with two mobile X-ray units deployed to enable on-site diagnostics and faster clinical assessment at point of care.
Based on a standard laboratory package cost of approximately P2,000 per beneficiary, the 433 individuals who availed of laboratory services represent an estimated equivalent value of P866,000.
This figure reflects laboratory diagnostics only and excludes consultations, imaging, medicines, logistics, and manpower support, indicating that the overall scope of assistance delivered extends beyond laboratory services.
