SteelAsia taps Buskowitz Energy for 8 MWp solar project, setting a new scale for industrial rooftop solar in the Philippines

SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation has signed a contract with Buskowitz Energy for the Compostela Works Solar Rooftop Project in Cebu, an 8 MWp installation set to become the largest single-roof rooftop solar system in heavy industry in the Philippines.
The project will cover approximately 65,560 square meters of roof area and will use 12,888 solar panels and 54 inverters. Once completed, it is expected to generate 12,000 MWh of clean energy annually—supplying around 25% of the plant’s total electricity requirements. Target completion is November 2026.
As energy costs continue to fluctuate and industries look for more stable, long-term solutions, projects like this mark a clear shift in how large-scale manufacturing facilities are powered. The system is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 8,400 metric tons of CO₂ each year. Over five years, this is equivalent to recycling 73,500 tons of waste, offsetting 832 million kilometers driven by passenger vehicles, or avoiding the use of 90 million liters of gasoline.

“For decades, renewable energy from hydroelectric and geothermal sources have been a key component of how SteelAsia operates its mills, and we have recently been adding solar into the mix for its practicality. We are grateful to have Buskowitz Energy on board for this initiative. SteelAsia Compostela is the second of our mills to install solar panels, and we look forward to putting up similar projects for our other mills,” said Andre Sy, SteelAsia Executive Vice Chairman.
Buskowitz Energy will deliver the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), as well as operations and maintenance (O&M) and asset management of the project, supporting SteelAsia’s move toward more efficient and sustainable operations.
