The joint inspection came after concerns were raised over the alleged theft of steel railings, as well as poor lighting and lack of warning signs, conditions seen to endanger motorists and pedestrians.
Authorities noted that similar incidents have been linked to road accidents in the area, including a recent fatal crash.
Domagoso called on the DPWH to immediately address the structural and safety deficiencies, stressing the need to prevent further accidents along the busy road links.
“DPWH listens to it, especially Secretary Dizon. We would like to thank the DPWH na tinugunan agad ang kaligtasan ng mga taga-Lungsod ng Maynila at sa mga dumarako rito (that the safety of Manila residents and those coming into the city was immediately addressed),” the mayor said.
For his part, Dizon assured that corrective measures would be implemented without delay, including welding steel railings in place to prevent theft, as well as installing reflectorized paint, additional lighting, and warning signs to improve visibility, especially at night.
The Nagtahan Link flyover, a vital transport route in Manila, falls under the jurisdiction of the DPWH, which is now coordinating with the city government to expedite repairs and ensure public safety.
