Globe and Ayala Foundation empower the City of Mati through digital resilience
Eighty families in the City of Mati now have safer homes and renewed opportunities after Globe, Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI) and Makati Development Corporation (MDC) turned over shelter kits to residents displaced by earthquakes and fires. The initiative helped families secure stable living spaces while creating pathways for long-term recovery and resilience in their communities. This was made possible through the help of 200K customers with their Globe Rewards Points through the Group Goals campaign last January 2026. The local government of Mati, through its City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), also provided counterpart financial support to each family.
The support extended beyond rebuilding houses. Globe introduced opportunities that allow residents to rebuild their livelihoods and strengthen their economic resilience through digital tools. Twenty-six community members, including parents, local government staff, and senior citizens, were trained as Globe Digital Ambassadors under a pilot initiative that enables beneficiaries to run small digital retail businesses within their neighborhoods.
Participants received Autoload Max credits and training on using the Globe Benta app, allowing them to offer mobile load and digital services directly from their homes. The program equips residents with practical knowledge in mobile commerce, financial management, and entrepreneurship, transforming their homes into hubs for small but sustainable sources of income.
“We are thrilled to see our communities not only recover but gain skills that empower them to thrive in the digital economy,” said Cenen Milan Jr., Ayala Foundation Project Lead for Mindanao. “This program demonstrates how recovery can create both stability and opportunity for families.”
The shelter kit turnover also coincided with Safer Internet Day 2026, highlighting the importance of responsible participation in the digital world. Globe integrated its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) into the activity, reaching 80 parents and senior citizens as well as 15 representatives from the local government.
Now in its tenth year, DTP equips communities with essential digital knowledge, including online safety, data privacy awareness, critical thinking, and responsible use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. It also raises awareness on Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), helping families safeguard children and vulnerable members of the community in an increasingly connected environment.
“This initiative demonstrates the value of combining disaster response with digital education,” said Mayor Joel Mayo Almario of the City of Mati. “It strengthens both homes and livelihoods and allows our community to rise stronger and more resilient.”
The effort reflects the shared commitment of Globe, Ayala Foundation, and MDC to support inclusive community development. Through the Brigadang Ayala volunteer program, employees mobilized resources and expertise to directly support the recovery of communities in Mindanao.
“This initiative reflects the strength of partnerships within the Ayala Group in supporting communities through recovery,” said James Lopez, Globe’s Mindanao External Affairs Lead and Chairman of the Board of the WeAreAyala Business Club Davao. “By working together, we can help families in Mati rebuild their homes while opening digital and livelihood opportunities that strengthen their resilience.”
“By integrating shelter support with digital literacy and micro-entrepreneurship, we are enabling the community to build a more stable and self-sustaining future,” said Rofil Magto, Globe Assistant Director for Sustainability and Social Responsibility. “These efforts go beyond immediate recovery, opening new opportunities for families to prosper."
With safer homes, stronger digital awareness, and new livelihood opportunities, City of Mati demonstrates how recovery efforts can evolve into long-term community empowerment. Globe’s initiative shows that rebuilding after disaster is not only about restoring structures but also about equipping communities with the skills, connectivity, and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital age.
