The Ford Territory Hybrid has exceeded 1,000 units in sales within three months of its local launch, giving Ford Philippines an early foothold in the growing full hybrid SUV segment. The Territory Hybrid joined Ford’s local SUV range less than a year ago and is aimed at buyers who want lower fuel consumption without the charging requirements of a battery electric vehicle.
Early adopters
Among its early adopters are fitness coach Zach Peña and environmentalist and mental health advocate Cat Triviño, both of whom moved to the Territory Hybrid after previously owning internal combustion engine vehicles. Peña also owns a Ford Everest, while Triviño previously owned a Ford EcoSport.
“Transitioning to a hybrid vehicle was an interesting exercise, but one that quickly proved worthwhile,” said Peña. “I’m a Ford Everest owner as well, and I’m used to hearing and feeling the car, but with the Territory Hybrid, the silence really stands out. The fuel efficiency is a huge win, so if you want to be smart about your daily costs, a full hybrid vehicle is a no-brainer.”
The Territory Hybrid uses a dedicated hybrid powertrain made up of a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, electric motor, and 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The engine produces 150 PS and 230 Nm, while the electric motor produces 218 PS and 315 Nm. Combined fuel economy is rated at up to 19.6 km/L, based on laboratory testing under controlled conditions.
Battery charging happens while driving through regenerative braking and energy capture from the combustion engine. That allows the Territory Hybrid to operate as a full hybrid without needing to be plugged in, an advantage for buyers who live in condominiums or areas without regular access to charging.
“Sustainability is one of my advocacies. The fact that I’m able to use less fuel and reduce emissions on my everyday drives without sacrificing the comfort and performance I’ve come to expect from a Ford is what made me go for the Territory Hybrid. I live in a condominium that isn’t designed for charging vehicles, and EV charging infrastructures in the Philippines are still catching up, so for now, a full hybrid vehicle gives me the best balance,” said Triviño.
Longer range
The Territory Hybrid can achieve a driving range of up to 1,000 kilometers per tank. Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes let the driver soften or sharpen the Territory Hybrid’s response depending on traffic, road conditions, or personal preference.
Triviño also values the Territory Hybrid’s versatility, especially since her work often takes her from city appointments to community activities outside the metro.
“My work takes me around, from city drives for mental health discussions to more remote areas for community work and clean-ups. I’ve found my Territory Hybrid to be very reliable, with safety features that keep my mind at ease on the road,” she adds.
Peña also singled out the second-row space, an important point for buyers using the Territory Hybrid as a family vehicle.
“It’s the second-row legroom that really stands out. A lot of people are surprised by it — it’s actually more spacious and comfortable than many SUVs in its class.”
Peace of mind
He adds, “I save on fuel, my family and friends stay comfortable, and I have confidence in the car’s durability. Whether it’s daily use or longer drives, the Territory Hybrid is a solid all-around vehicle that keeps up with everything I do.”
The Territory Hybrid also comes with a spare tire, a detail both owners considered useful for emergencies. Some electrified vehicles rely only on repair kits, which can be less reassuring on longer drives or in areas where roadside tire services are not readily available.
This April, the Territory Hybrid Titanium X comes with a ₱50,000 cash discount or a ₱89,000 all-in downpayment offer. The Territory Hybrid Trend starts at ₱1,399,000.
For buyers still unsure about public charging or home charging access, the Territory Hybrid’s strongest argument is its simplicity. It cuts fuel use, keeps the familiar gasoline refueling routine, and adds the quieter low-speed operation expected from a full hybrid.
