A magnitude 5.4 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Eastern Samar early Wednesday morning, April 29, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its initial bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 6:58 a.m., with its epicenter located 42 kilometers northeast of San Policarpio, Eastern Samar, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Its instruments recorded Intensity III (weak) in Can-Avid, Eastern Samar, and Palapag, Northern Samar.
Intensity II (slightly felt) was logged in Gandara, Samar, while Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) was recorded in Carigara, Abuyog, Alangalang, and Dulag in Leyte.
No damage or aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said.
