The Pasay City government has rolled out the 2026 Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), giving temporary jobs and skills training to 150 young Pasayeños.
Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano led the program kickoff during an orientation on Monday at the Pasay City Astrodome on Monday, April 27, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Under the initiative, student-beneficiaries will be deployed to various offices at City Hall for a 20-day employment period.
During this time, they are expected to gain hands-on work experience, develop professional discipline, and earn income to help support their education and daily expenses.
Rubiano underscored that SPES is not merely a financial assistance program but also a key platform in preparing the youth for future employment.
“This program gives our students early exposure to the workplace while helping them continue their studies,” the mayor said.
She added that the initiative primarily targets students from low-income families, offering them short-term employment opportunities that can ease financial burdens while building practical skills.
The SPES rollout forms part of the city government’s broader youth development agenda, which prioritizes education, employment readiness, and inclusive growth.
Rubiano said the local government remains committed to expanding similar programs to ensure more young residents are equipped with skills and opportunities for a better future.
