A female motorcycle rider was killed after being run over by a 12-wheel truck along the Ortigas Flyover in Mandaluyong City late Monday night, April 27, -- and in a grim twist, her remains were struck again hours later by a dump truck on the same stretch of the road while police were processing the area.
Police said the rider lost control of her motorcycle around 11 p.m. while attempting to overtake on the truck's right side. She fell beneath the vehicle and was run over, dying instantly.
The Eastern Police District said the truck driver reportedly stopped after sensing impact and later discovered the rider already lifeless on the roadway, prompting authorities to secure the area.
While the scene was still under investigation, another incident occurred at around 2 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, involving an SUV and a dump truck along the same stretch of the flyover.
Reports said the SUV suddenly stopped due to a vehicle ahead, causing the dump truck behind it to crash into its rear and swerve toward the right lane where the victim’s remains had been placed, striking the body again.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) retrieved the remains at around 6 a.m. after completing on-site examination, while Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel conducted flushing operations to clean the roadway.
The two drivers involved in the two incidents were brought to the traffic sector unit of the Mandaluyong City Police Station for investigation and are facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
The Ortigas Flyover southbound toward Meralco Avenue was reopened at 6:12 a.m. Tuesday after clearing and cleanup operations were completed.
