Girl, 13, found dead in sugarcane field

BACOLOD CITY – A 13-year-old girl was found dead in a sugarcane field in Barangay Poblacion West, Candoni, Negros Occidental on Monday, April 27.
Police Capt. Leonel Adolacion, Candoni police chief, said the victim was asked by her mother to buy ice on Sunday, April 26, in a sari-sari store in Barangay Haba, Candoni.
The victim failed to return home and assumed that she was with her friends. Her family looked for her when she failed to return home but failed to find her.
A 15-year-old minor and his friends found her body in a sugarcane field on Monday.
Adolacion said the victim was injured in the forehead by an unknown object.
He said they have persons of interest and lead in the investigation.
The victim’s body is being examined by the Provincial Forensic Unit. Her clothes were intact when she was discovered.
Police are backtracking closed circuit television (CCTV) camera to identify the person last seen with the victim.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
