Less than a week after its Finals defeat to Creamline, Cignal has decided to take a break in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) by filing a leave of absence (LOA), the team announced Tuesday, April 28.
Member of the PVL since 2021, the Super Spikers opted to take a hiatus after a thorough review of their "strategic direction"..
“Our deepest thanks go out to the players, coaches, and staff who have poured their hearts into this team over the years,” the team wrote in a statement. “And to our fans, who have stood by us, maraming, maraming salamat.”
The women’s club followed suit to Cignal’s men’s squad which also bid farewell to the Spikers’ Turf earlier this year.
Cignal was consistently a contender in the distaff side since 2013, starting in the now-defunct Philippine Super Liga where it found great success before moving to the PVL in 2021.
The Super Spikers, however, failed to reach the Promised Land, with the most recent setback their Finals loss to the Cool Smashers in the All-Filipino Conference.
With their exit, PVL clubs are expected to catch the core of PLDT bannered by newly-minted MVP Vanie Gandler, Erika Santos, Dawn Catindig, and Conference's Best Setter and skipper Gel Cayuna, to name a few.
