Park Chan wook goes western with Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler
Korean director Park Chan-wook (CJ ENM)
Park Chan-wook is taking on the Wild West for his next film, "The Brigands of Rattlecreek," starring Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, and Tang Wei.
After being named as jury for next year's Cannes film festival, Chan Wook will direct the adaptation of S. Craig Zahler's ("Bone Tomahawk," "Dragged Across Concrete") original script.
Matthew will play a sheriff who teams up with a doctor, who will be played by Pedro, to hunt down a gang of outlaws who killed his wife and ravaged their town. Austin plays the gang's ringleader.
The screenplay made the Black List in 2006 and has been in development for years, with Warner Bros. and Amazon previously involved.
Chan Wook is producing through his Moho Film label alongside Bradley Fischer ("Zodiac"). Back Jisun, Mike Medavoy, and Georgia Kacandes are executive producing.
According to reports, the upcoming film will be under Legendary productions, and they will also handle the international rights of the film. Under the helm of Patrick Wachsberger, the upcoming film has 60$ million budget.
The director is coming off "No Other Choice," South Korea's submission for the international feature Oscar, which premiered at Cannes last year and picked up three Golden Globe nominations.
