JO1 member Shosei Ohira to exit group as contract expires
Japanese boy band JO1 member Shosei Ohira will leave the group following the expiration of his exclusive contract on May 31, 2026, his agency Lapone Entertainment announced.
In a statement released April 27, the agency said Ohira will “cease activities as a member of JO1” once his contract ends.
“During the hiatus, he expressed his intention to end the contract, and we have come to this conclusion following our repeated discussions,” the agency said, apologizing to fans for the sudden announcement and asking for their understanding and continued support.
Ohira had been on hiatus prior to the decision.
In a letter addressed to fans, known as JAMs, Ohira apologized for the delayed announcement and reflected on his decision.
“For the past six months, I have deeply considered my future and had numerous discussions with the company,” he said. “As a result, I have decided to put an end to my activities with JO1.”
He also expressed regret over the impact of his decision.
“I sincerely apologize to everyone who has supported us for this sudden announcement. I deeply regret the inconvenience I have caused to all JAMs due to my own shortcomings and immaturity,” he said.
Ohira extended his apology to his fellow members, agency staff, and others involved, adding that he will now pursue a different path while carrying lessons from his time with the group.
“Meeting JO1 and all the JAMs was a treasure I will cherish forever,” he said. “I will continue to wholeheartedly support the members’ future endeavors.”
JO1 was formed through the reality survival show “Produce 101 Japan” Season 1 and officially debuted in March 2020.
