Honoree Răduța Dana Matache, Romanian Ambassador to the Philippines, delivers her message
The Natural Resources Development Corporation (NRDC) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, together with the University of the Philippines, hosted a testimonial dinner at The Executive House in Quezon City for outgoing Romanian Ambassador to the Philippines Răduța Dana Matache.

The gathering brought together figures from diplomacy, government, academe, business, and media to recognize Matache’s role in strengthening ties between Romania and the Philippines, particularly in higher education and institutional partnerships.

acknowledged Ambassador Matache’s role in advancing academic and intellectual exchange between Romania and the Philippines during his welcome remarks
Judge Benjamin Turgano, President and CEO of NRDC, cited Matache’s efforts in advancing academic and intellectual exchange between the two countries. He pointed in particular to her role in fostering cooperation between Wesleyan University Philippines and Banat University of Life Sciences, an initiative that helped open pathways for Erasmus Mundus higher education collaboration.

Tugano added that her commitment to partnership reflected NRDC’s own focus on sustainable, equitable, and socially responsible development of the country’s natural resources.

He noted that universities play an important role in transforming international friendship into practical collaboration, intellectual growth, and long-term ties.

In her remarks, Matache thanked NRDC, UP, and Philippine partners for their support throughout her posting, describing the Philippines as a place where relationships were formed with ease.

She spoke warmly of the country’s openness, natural beauty, and food culture, even sharing her fondness for ginataang bilo-bilo.

She added: “We believe in the Filipino people. I believe in the Philippines and am convinced that you will all be successful. Romania will remain a partner—a friend, a like-minded country, apparently far away, but in fact, very close.”

The ambassador began her tenure in Manila in December 2021, with concurrent accreditation to Palau, the Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia. Her diplomatic career has included senior roles within Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as postings in Washington, D.C., London, and Stockholm, where she served as ambassador to Sweden from 2009 to 2015.
