ILOILO CITY – Aklan is celebrating its 70th anniversary as a province.
Gov. Jose Enrique “Joen” Miraflores led a series of activities, including Aklan Day, on Saturday, April 25.
One of the highlights was the wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Godofredo P. Ramos, the “Father of Aklan,” for authoring the bill that pushed for separation from Capiz province.
Aklan eventually became a province through Republic Act No. 1414 enacted on April 25, 1956.
Among those who attended the ceremony honoring Ramos in the capital town of Kalibo were first district Rep. Jesus “Jess” Marquez, second district Rep. Florencio “Joeben” Miraflores, Vice Gov. Dexter Calizo, provincial board members, Uswag Ilonggo party-list Rep. James “Jojo” Ang Jr., and former Gov. Carlito “Lito” Marquez.
Various activities – a civic parade, a fiber festival, a trade fair, food festival, agricultural festival, sports tournament, art and cultural exhibitions, and a fashion show – will be held for the event that ends May 2.
