The driver of a police patrol car that crashed into a concrete wall in Barangay Payatas, killing five detainees, was arrested by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Saturday, April 25.
QCPD chief Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said the suspect was apprehended at around 12:00 p.m. at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
Police said the driver underwent an Alcohol Breath Analyzer (ABA) test, which yielded a negative result, before being subjected to inquest proceedings before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
The suspect is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.
Meanwhile, one Person Under Police Custody (PUPC) remains confined at the Quezon City General Hospital after undergoing surgery and is now in stable condition under close medical monitoring.
The QCPD said it has extended financial assistance to the affected individuals while investigation and coordination with concerned units continue.
“We assure the public that due process will be strictly observed and that accountability will be upheld. At the same time, we continue to closely monitor the condition of those injured and extend necessary assistance to all affected individuals,” Silvio said.
