Meralco warns after QC cable theft kills one, cuts power to 6,000

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) raised alarm after a 34-year-old man died in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City, before dawn on Saturday, April 25, while allegedly attempting to steal live electrical cables, an incident that also triggered a power outage affecting more than 6,000 customers.
Electricity service was restored after nearly two hours following immediate repair operations conducted by Meralco crews.
Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga reiterated that theft of electrical facilities is dangerous and strictly prohibited. He urged the public to report any suspicious activities involving power infrastructure.
He reminded that under Republic Act No. 7832, violators face at least 12 years of imprisonment and fines ranging from P50,000 to P100,000.
Buyers of stolen electrical materials may also be held liable under the Anti-Fencing Law.
Customers may report concerns through the MyMeralco app, official social media accounts, text hotlines, or the Meralco hotline.
